Bridgetisms – Good Advice From Bridget Willard

Bridget Willard a.k.a “You Too Can Be A Guru” is a smart and funny lady. She is also my friend. I don’t think I am biased when I say you can learn a lot from Bridget. Back in October Bridget gave her first WordCamp talk at WordCamp Cincinnati and I am very proud of her! It takes guts to get up in front of people and talk.

Here’s the video of her talk. It is definitely worth the time to watch and learn from her experiences as well as the advice she is giving with her personal story.

I watched the video of her talk today that inspired me to write down what I am calling”Bridgetisms”. She has a lot of great advice and I wanted to share her knowledge by the following quotes I picked up from her talk.

Bridgetisms & More

“Be prepared for opportunity!”

“There is no dream without the work!”

“Be just as good in the real world.”

“Build human relationships beyond the computer.”

“Be with human beings don’t be recluse.”

“WordPress is about community.”

“Relationships are the most important thing in your life.”

“I do things the hard way so you don’t have to!”

“Hallway tack is code for networking.”

“The community is what makes WordPress special.”

“We’re human beings we are wired to be social.”

“We can’t live our lives isolated.”

“It’s important to be a part of the WordPress community.”

“You have to be a friend to have friends.”

“Being a part of the WordPress community is participating in person.”

“If you think going to a WordPress Meetup is about learning that’s only half right.”

“Going to a WordPress Meetup is not about the information it is about the relationships.”

“You don’t have to do this alone. You are not alone.”

“I believe in the power of the WordPress community!”

Summing It Up

Bridget is spot on. When you watch her talk or read the Bridgetisms you will see that coming together and building relationships is what makes our community great! I for one want to be more involved in the WordPress community because of people like Bridget. I am proud to call her my friend.
