Going Rogue From Whole30

So there’s a quote my husband and I learned from the television show Scrubs “Too much ha ha. Pretty soon boo hoo.” It’s an excellent quote and applies to many situations. It certainly applies to me this past week going rogue from Whole30. My new healthy lifestyle is basically Whole30 meals and once in while I will eat something non compliant. Unfortunately I went rogue and ate several things that I haven’t eaten in quite a long time and I paid the price!

Sushi Night

Sushi - Going Rogue From Whole30

We arrived Friday night in Seattle and I don’t know where it came from but I wanted to have sushi for dinner. Eric located a sushi place and we walked and had dinner. We each placed orders of a variety of sushi and I was really looking forward to it. I had a few California rolls, avocado rolls, and some shrimp tempura rolls.

We finished dinner and went to the store to get some nuts since I had forgotten to pack them for the trip. By the time we got to the store I was feeling drunk. I had not had an alcoholic drink with dinner. I immediately realized I was on a sugar high from the rice. It had happened to me once before when I ate bread and pasta. So needless to say I was not feeling well the rest of the evening.

Chocolate Pie

Two days later we were on our way home and I decided to order a slice of chocolate cream pie at Shari’s. I should have stopped at the second bite but I was enjoying it so much I ended up eating the whole thing. I didn’t feel too bad at first but now that I think about it my stomach was a little uncomfortable on the way home after that.

Halloween

The next day was Halloween. I had been really good for over a week having the Halloween candy bags in the house. I didn’t feel tempted at all. Then I started handing out candy to the kids that came to the door. After about an hour or so I thought I really would like to try a Reese’s peanut butter cup. So, I did! It was just as good as I remembered it to be. A little while later I decided to have one more. I was doing ok and didn’t feel a sugar high or any drastic changes. Then I had a little bag of M & M’s I was able to stop myself from having any more candy for the rest of the night. I did suffer from a sugar high after the M & M’s. It’s a good thing they were fun size candy!

Gelato

Now it’s Tuesday and I wanted the Talenti chocolate gelato that was in the freezer. I thought ok I will just have a bite or two. Next thing I knew I had eaten what was left in the container. Not too long after that I had the worst stomach ache. I hadn’t had a stomach ache like this in a loooong time. Basically, “Too much ha ha. Pretty soon boo hoo.”. I definitely paid the price by eating things my body was no longer used to and really wasn’t good for me.

Lesson Learned

The lesson I learned this week is it’s ok to eat things that aren’t necessarily good for you but that I personally need to make sure I don’t do this too close together. I enjoy the foods I eat now and know from time to time I will eat things that are not Whole30 but the difference is in the future I know not to eat these types of foods so close together.

I am still learning to do the one or 2 bite advice from Whole30. This is where you have something like a piece of chocolate cake but you only take a bite or 2. Never eat the whole thing because you really don’t need it.

I have been living Whole30 since March and I am learning new things all the time. It’s a work in progress just like me.

Have you tried the Whole30 or some new healthy lifestyle change? What have you learned? Let me know I would love to hear from you!
